In 2024, the Mongolian Nature's Legacy Foundation was established as an independent conservation trust fund based on the principles of independent governance. In 2025, we turned our vision into action and began to fully operationalize our work. We are proud to share the highlights of our achievements over the past year under the Eternal Mongolia Project Finance for Permanence programme, implemented jointly by the Government of Mongolia, the Mongolian Nature’s Legacy Foundation, and The Nature Conservancy.
Highlights from our first year of conservation finance action
- Established the Foundation’s Secretariat and developed and began implementing core policies, procedures, and operational systems covering governance, grantmaking, and environmental and social risk management, among others;
- Issued our first earmarked donor grant and open call for proposals, awarded funding, and began working with our project partners;
- Developed the 2025–2028 medium-term plan for Eternal Mongolia PFP and supported the launch of key policy initiatives, including work on the Law on Special Protected Areas, the protected area roadmap, network expansion and management, and results-based financing in the environmental sector;
- Built partnerships with national and international organizations and developed innovative mechanisms, including green loans for herders and biodiversity credits, to increase private sector participation and financing in conservation.
